Professors Elizabeth Teisberg and Michael E. Porter, renowned authority on competitive strategy, first introduced the concept of value-based health care in their landmark book “Redefining Health Care: Creating Value-Based Competition on Results“(Harvard Business Review Press, May 2006). Its premise that value in health care is the improvement in health outcomes for money spent galvanized thinking among a number of innovation-driven delivery organizations in the U.S. and around the world, and has since pioneered new approaches to health care.
